Glen Moray has unveiled two restricted version single malts as a part of its Warehouse 1 Assortment. Created from a few of the distillery’s earliest experiments with Rioja casks, the newest additions — Glen Moray Rioja Cask Matured and Glen Moray Peated Rioja Cask End — replicate the distillery’s exploration of the affect Rioja purple wine casks can have on whisky.
These small-batch, cask-strength whiskies showcase the interaction between Glen Moray’s spirit and the wealthy, fruity notes drawn from Spanish-sourced Rioja casks. The eight-year-old Rioja Cask Matured expression affords a full maturation within the purple wine casks, delivering deep flavours of cherries, plums, and leather-based.
Just a few years later, the 11-year-old Peated Rioja Cask End combines a flippantly peated Glen Moray aged in bourbon barrels with an extra interval in Rioja casks, infusing the whisky with a completely totally different flavour — it’s acquired a smoky, fruity complexity.
