Fast Take: First up is the Aiguille d’Or, primarily the GPHG’s greatest in present throughout classes. This 12 months, it went to Audemars Piguet’s Code 11.59 Universelle RD #4. It is an ultra-complicated watch with 23 problems, together with a Grand Sonnerie Supersonnerie, minute repeater, perpetual calendar, split-seconds flyback chronograph, and flying tourbillon. It is a beautiful mixture of a lot of the R&D we have seen trickling out of AP since 2015 when it launched the RD#1, and essentially the most difficult watch to ever come from the model. It is a new era of difficult watchmaking from AP, and essentially the most spectacular use of the Code 11.59 platform to date. What’s extra, it pays tribute to AP’s L’Universelle pocket watch, some of the difficult watches ever produced, from 1899. At this time, the unique L’Universelle sits proudly on the heart of AP’s Museum in Le Brassus. And tonight, the Code 11.59 Unvierselle RD #4 took heart stage on the GPHG.
